Power over Ethernet (PoE) enables the passage of electrical power, not just data, through Ethernet cabling. It enables PoE compliant devices to be powered over Ethernet cabling, thus eliminating the need to install additional power points or additional adapters.
PoE is an ideal solution to power a number of devices including IP phones, cameras and wireless LAN access points within a network.
In response, Planet has developed High Power PoE (HPoE) switches that conform to this new 802.3at standard. Compliant switches can deliver 30 Watts of power per switch port. This is ideal for use with PTZ/Speed Dome cameras, which require more power than that that can be delivered by conventional 802.3af PoE switches.
Planet IEEE 802.3at HPoE devices include the GSD-808HP, WGSD-10020HP, SGSW-24040HP, HPOE-1200G, HPOE-2400G and the PoE 161, 161s and 162s. This wide range provides users a variety of PoE options as well as user-specific functionality, ensuring networkers can find the hardware that suits them best.
